Auto Innovators provided comments to EPA on a petition filed by the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to reinstate SNAP Rules 20 & 21, accelerating the phaseout of Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in Light Duty Vehicles (LDVs). While the Auto Innovators and its members are committed to the phaseout of HFCs, it is imperative that the proposed phaseout timeline is aligned with manufacturing and export capabilities. In addition, Auto Innovators highlighted the need for EPA to harmonize phaseout timeline and criteria with California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) anticipated phaseout timeline of their own. This comment supports our broader engagement on HFC prohibition under EPA’s proposed rule mandated by the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act.
