Alliance for Automotive Innovation Welcomes Multi-State Policy to Increase Vehicle Electrification
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation (Auto Innovators) Monday applauded the release of the Transportation & Climate Initiative (TCI) memorandum of understanding (MOU). The cap-and-invest program aims to reduce the transport sector’s GHG emissions 26 percent by 2032 and could generate $300 million per year to invest in low-carbon transportation. This type of market-based policy can increase vehicle electrification with investments in electric vehicle charging, hydrogen refueling, and vehicle rebates--all while reducing the carbon intensity of liquid fuels. Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Washington, DC, were the first jurisdictions to sign on, and other Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states should consider this as a complementary policy to increase vehicle electrification in their states.
“This type of market-based policy will help states meet their vehicle electrification targets by helping to provide necessary incentives and infrastructure,” said John Bozzella, President and CEO of Auto Innovators. “We applaud those jurisdictions that have signed on and urge them to invest in solutions that maximize future deployment of zero emission vehicle technologies. The TCI is an opportunity to reduce emissions from liquid fuels and help build the market for electric and fuel cell vehicle technologies.”
Auto Innovators submitted supportive comments to the TCI on February 28, 2020, and is a member of the Coalition for a Better Business Environment, a diverse coalition of the economy and community supporting the TCI.
