Recommendations Released in Conjunction with Vehicle Safety Recalls Week
Washington, DC – March 8, 2022 – The Alliance for Automotive Innovation (Auto Innovators) marked the beginning of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Recalls Week by unveiling Recall Policy Recommendations. These recommendations outline public and private sector efforts that can help increase recall awareness and completion.
“The auto industry continues its strong support of efforts to increase recall completion rates, and an important part of that is recall notification,” said Auto Innovators President and CEO John Bozzella. “It is the shared goal of automakers, and we hope the shared goal of all stakeholders, to reach a 100 percent completion rate for vehicles with open recalls that are still on the road.”
One key tool to promoting recall awareness involves a partnership between Auto Innovators and CARFAX, the Vehicle Recall Search Service (VRSS) that allows public and private sector entities to automatically check up to 10,000 vehicles at the same time. The auto industry is encouraged by the tremendous success of the program, and in October surpassed one billion vehicle checks for open recalls.
