New policy agenda released with 10 recommendations to increase V2X deployment
WASHINGTON, DC – The Alliance for Automotive Innovation (Auto Innovators) hosted a panel this week with the National Transportation Safety Board, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Georgia and Michigan Departments of Transportation on how vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology is shaping the future of transportation.
“Connecting Cars: Realizing the Benefits of V2X” identified the benefits of V2X and remaining barriers to widespread deployment.
Auto Innovators also released a policy agenda with 10 specific recommendations to accelerate the nationwide rollout of V2X.
“V2X is a promising connected vehicle technology that allows vehicles to communicate in real time directly with each other, with roadway infrastructure and even with pedestrians to save lives and make transportation more efficient,” said Auto Innovators President and CEO John Bozzella. "Governments at all levels are looking to leverage V2X technology to achieve their safety and efficiency goals. But to fully unlock the potential of this technology, we also need a regulatory and policy environment that supports and facilitates V2X deployment.”

National Transportation Safety Board Member Michael Graham said: “Regulatory certainty will immediately incentivize stakeholders to increase V2X investment and deployment.”
U.S. Department of Transportation Deputy Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology Dr. Robert Hampshire said: “V2X communication is another way we can move the nation closer toward zero crashes.”
Michigan Department of Transportation Director Paul Ajegba said: “I think the gamechanger is this technology – that we have not fully deployed, but the potential is just great.”
Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Russell McMurry said: “I believe that the future of V2X technology is so great, we don’t understand it fully, as the Internet of Things continues to grow and technology continues to grow, it’s not less spectrum you need – it’s going to be more.”
